Have you heard of Subtle Asian Traits? It's a Facebook group that has about 1.5 million members and has the most relatable content when it comes to being Asian. From rating boba tea to talking about conservative Asian parents, the group really can make Asians like us laugh and cry.
However, sometimes arguments do break out in the group, because not all the Asians in the group are from Asia- some have parents who were born here but migrated to Western countries and hence, the Asians in the group were born and raised in a different country.
These cultural differences is perhaps why this post in the group got such a bad reaction. Emily Watzl, who posted the interaction, has left the group after the post got approved, maybe because the reaction to her post has been negative- at time of writing, it has 2.1 thousand comments.
The conversation starts by her mother, who Emily had named the Chinese word for 'mom' in Chinese in her phone, requesting a phone call as she missed her. Two hours after not receiving a reply, her mother panics and says that she is worried, and that she loves and misses her. She ends by saying that she will call the police soon.
Emily finally replies her seven messages with a simple 'Ok'. She shared the interaction on the group, saying that 'Chinese moms be like', adding eyeroll emojis. While posts about overprotective, overbearing parents are normal, this one has people divided about how to feel, with some called her an ungrateful child.
