The island of Penang has gained so much attention over the years. With the main city of Georgetown being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the island getting an LRT system soon, Penang might be small but is a favourite when it comes to local travel.

Whether you're taking a day trip up north or staying for a couple of days, here are some of our recommendations on the two most important things in Penang- food, and all the fun stuff!
1. Food
A trip to Penang isn't complete without food. Penang assam laksa has been ranked #7 in CNN's list of top 50 foods in the world, so try the ones at Pasar Air Itam and Jalan Gottlieb. Other street food would be the char kway teow at Siam Road, or head to Gurney Drive for rows of hawker stalls that will leave you spoilt for choice!

The cafe scene is also booming in Penang. With its beautiful architecture, the buildings in Penang are perfect for cosy cafes and of course, an #ootd. Pik Nik is one of the longest standing ones, while Macallum Connoisseurs is a popular one too. For options, head over to Karpal Singh Drive!

2. Fun
For paid options, Escape Theme Park is an adventure park with obstacle courses, both dry and wet! It even has the world's longest water slide. Just down the road is Entopia, which is a butterfly farm. Also, don't miss out on Penang Hill, which you can take a train up to. It's connected to The Habitat, a rainforest walk where you can take in nature, and a beautiful sunset!

Of course, there are a lot of free or cheaper things you can do too. The Kek Lok Si boasts the largest Kuan Yin statue in the world, at 36.57 meters high. Pay a visit also to the beaches- try Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang! Jetties like Chew Jetty and Tan Jetty also have great views and sell food which will remind you of your childhood!
