Nangka, or jackfruit, is definitely one of our favourite local fruits. Nangka is famous across Asia for its diversity- when ripe, it's eaten as a sweet delicacy, but when young, it's used in soups and fried sometimes as a vegetable.
Cutting the fruit requires some skill. With a whole nangka bearing up to 500 seeds, care must be taken in prying the fruit apart with an oiled knife, and getting out the juicy pieces of nangka, which resemble that of the durian- delicious flesh with a seed in the middle.
However, Facebook user Mei Tan recently spotted pre-packaged nangka in a state in the U.S. that was very... different from what we're used to. For reference, this is how packaged nangka looks on this side of the world.
It seems that the whole fruit was cut into slices, without removing the skin or the seeds! While it's okay for a watermelon to be cut like that, we're not so sure of how someone would react to chomping down on a sliced-up piece of nangka seed.
The post has gone viral with 4.1 thousand likes and more than a thousand comments at time of writing. Most people are low-key offended that the store would insult nangka like that. One person even shared their experience with badly cut nangka in another U.S. state:
