While most fans have long bickered over which is better, the Marvel cinematic universe or the DC extended universe, one Hollywood big shot director named James Gunn has found himself on both sides of the arms race.
Gunn has recently been reinstated by Disney to direct the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie after being fired by the big mouse over comments he made a decade ago.

But during the period in which he was fired by Disney,Warner Bros. picked Gunn up to shoot for Suicide Squad 2. Thus, James Gunn is now officially going to be writing and directing for both a Marvel cinematic universe film and a DC extended universe film.
While there are those who would still standby the DC extended universe despite it’s less than stellar critical performance and box office numbers – Warner Bros. seems to understand that they need to do something.
This is how we imagine it went down at Warner Bros.
Therefore, Suicide Squad 2 isn’t going to be a sequel to the 2016 David Ayer film and will instead be a complete reboot written and directed by James Gunn.
As of right now we’re not exactly sure where that leaves previously cast characters from the first film though it has been confirmed that Will Smith will not reprise his role as Deadshot who will be played by Idris Elba instead.
