There are plenty of live music venues in Malaysia and it’s no surprise given our love for music. But sometimes you just want to enjoy music without the crowd talking over the band or someone’s drink spilling on your clothes. Here’s four music stores you can visit to get your personal listening experience game on.
Even though you want to get away from the loudness of a crowd, you still want the energy from the music. That’s where Sonic Rage, the Shah Alam music store has you covered. This music store carries a collection of Punk and Metal music which includes local bands too. The store is simple and doesn’t try to upsell you on anything – white walls and a rack is all you need to browse their selection. They’re only open on weekends from 2:30PM to 9:30PM however, so be aware of that!
2. Teenage Head Records
This store is a little easy to miss at the back lots of Subang Jaya since the windows are tinted. It’s not very brightly lit inside either and everything is packed closely together. Vinyl records make up most of the collection from Japanese city pop oldies to a bargain bins filled with Western folk tunes. It’s easy to spend an hour in here crate digging for that one record (or three) you want to add to your collection.
3. Star Pickers Audio Library
This place in Kota Damansara carries the truly high-end music listening experience. From SONY’s brand new DMP-Z1 DAP that hits a whopping RM31,999 retail price to the STAX SR-L700 electrostatic headphones. It’s called a ‘library’ because people are encouraged to try out any of their equipment for as long as they’d like in there. There’s also a café so you can listen to music like a king while you dine.
4. JABEN Malaysia
This store has multiple locations including one in Penang and Subang Jaya. They carry high-end audio too but function more as a direct to consumer retail store. It’s nice for browsing the more mainstream brands without getting lost for options.
We hope you're now informed on where to go for your perfect listening experience! Happy listening!
